As you can imagine, Brexit has caused a lot of chaos and confusion for UK based businesses when it comes to selling goods to customers in the EU. To compound the confusion, new EU VAT laws came into effect on July 1st 2021 which modify the rules yet again, and many companies are currently struggling to implement these new rules into their eCommerce businesses. For this online class, we began researching the most up-to-date UK rules for sales into the EU for physical and digital products, only to discover a morass of confusion and out-of-date information on the internet, published by accountancy, VAT firms and even (can you believe it) from the great and mighty HMRC themselves.
In our attempt to dispel some of this confusion, we have begun researching this issue ourselves.
